When I was little, people used to always ask me “What do you want to be when you grow up?”
I wanted to be just like MY MOM.
My mom was the first to give me love.
My mom showed me love.
My mom named me with love in mind.
MY NAME IS LOVE!!!
🎶 My Cherie amour….by Stevie Wonder
My mom loved bright colors.
I love bright colors.
My mom loved fashion, which she learned from her mom- Mi Abuela.
My mom taught me the love of cooking, which she also learned from her mom- Mi Abuela.
Mi Abuela cooked from scratch. She didn’t measure. It was always a pinch of this or a dab of that. She didn’t write anything down; everything was from her knowledge.
My mom, on the other hand, measured and wrote it all down.
To this day, I cannot go to a potluck without someone saying “Did you bring your FAMOUS MAC&CHEESE?!”😍 “Yes.”, I would say. “It’s my mom’s Mac&Cheese. And yes, IT’S FAMOUS!”
My mom loved books and reading books.
I love books and reading books. I even belong to two Book Clubs.
I discovered one specific book that I shared with my mom. And it became OUR BOND.
The book is titled LOVE YOU FOREVER by Robert Munsch.
It’s about a mother and her child. Or, depending on how you look at it, it’s about a child and their mother.
In the hospital this LAST time, I held my mom’s hand.
She looked at me and said “Don’t cry.”
“I’m tryin’, Madré. I’m tryin.”, I replied.
I continued to hold her hand and said to her “Madré, do you want to sing?!”
And she said yes.
So, we sang together….
¡Besitos a mi Madré!
I LOVE YOU, MADRÉ!
AND I ALWAYS WILL. 😭
